The Ditch

I come
To answer thy best pleasure; be’t to fly,
To swim, to dive into the fire, to ride
On the curl’d clouds

Shakespeare, The Tempest

blades of grass2The Ditch is a place where boys’ minds leave behind Minecraft and other online brain jambles, where one finds weapons in blades of grass, tools are made from tree bark, alliances formed with bugs and other crawling things and where just by running fast enough and extending one’s arms one can soar. One’s mind must be nimble as roles and gambits change quickly and this moment can make the previous moment ancient.  Bridges are built, then the strongest elements removed so grown ups cannot cross from the evil side to the good and only the lightest of souls can go from here to there as quickly as the times demand.

  1. Where’s the ditch? Looks like fun. Too bad some of the pics aren’t sharp.

    • The ditch is the dark section that’s overgrown and that the bridge crosses. The city doesn’t scythe or mow the sides of the ditch.
